1947
The first Corn Boil took place at Hughlett's Bottom, at the end of Dewey Avenue. The Gazette reported an "estimated 800 persons" attended. The following year, that same Gazette reported that "several thousand persons" had attended.
The Corn Boil was moved to Recreation Park ("The Fairgrounds") the next year, where it would remain until the last one in 1967.

First order of business: find parking! It takes a while to get there, and the attendants make sure there isn't an inch wasted in the parking area!
How many volunteers did it take to shuck 12 tons of sweet corn? All of them! Who got to cleanup all the shucks?
All shucked and ready to go into the boiler.
Boil for 7-10 minutes, drain & transfer to serving pans to be doused in butter.
Pans full of delicious buttered sweet corn ready for the taking. One of the volunteers stops to take a swig of Good Ole Potosi!
